This is how it came about

A fascinating thing happened as I was writing my new book, “When Heaven Touches Earth” The stories became relatively unimportant compared to HOW they happened and what forces of connection with the higher realms allowed them to happen. My connection with God has always been strong, but mostly in the past I would be “doing my life” and God would speak, or show up in some significant way. There was my life, and there was God. Sometimes we were in more harmony than other times. However, as I was writing the new book, my life became a living relationship with God in which the process of living WAS the message.

Marshal McLuhan once wrote “The Medium is the Message.” What I discovered is that my relationship with God is both the medium and the message, thus requiring no preparation or permission outside of that relationship.

At the same time those realizations were growing, another fascinating thing was happening. I had set aside several months this last year to resume my explorations in painting regarding my observations about how in life we are really co-creating our perceptions and experiences rather than gathering them passively. Of course, even science has proven there is no such thing as passive, absolutely objective, perception. Everything we engage with, even by perception, is affected by our attention and intention. Every moment of our life we are co-creating the events we experience and actually having a major impact on how they turn out. For me, painting was my first and favorite way of studying this phenomenon, which is universal for all of life. For me, painting is a mirror of life and a road map for how I can understand and teach what I learn to others. Specifically, my new paintings are landscapes, and my exploration was about space and how we create space for the housing of our life. Space creation is a powerful force in our happiness and health. Let me give you an example. Have you noticed how two-dimensional your life is when it is just “happening to you” or you are just going along with the program? Its like the hypnosis of highway driving. Then, suddenly, you're on vacation, or doing your own special thing, and find yourself in the midst of a multidimensional experience. We are by nature multi-dimensional creators. No wonder, “The Lamb and The Lion” is so holographic! What I was about to discover in these eight new paintings would change my art and my life forever. Now, they are a legacy for us all to explore and use to map our explorations of a more dimensional consciousness. There will be much more on this as we go along.

During these same months I was changing the way I spent my quiet time. For one thing, I was having a natural attraction toward contemplation instead of meditation. Through contemplation I could envision the next page of my book, and most importantly live it in my consciousness. Through contemplation I could pull the landscapes around me as if I were sitting in the midst of the scene and feel the cool breezes or streams of water on my feet. Through contemplation, I could relive the stories now retold in my new book, and they became MORE than stories. They became living bridges between where I am now and all that I would like to have or be in my life. Through contemplation I became more INSIDE my life rather than inside my mind or some indefinable expanse of spirit. I could rearrange the furniture of my life and create the spaces in which I truly wanted to live.

What I discovered is that contemplation can be a waking bridge between Heaven and Earth in which all possibilities can be examined and integrated, in which prayer can be visualized as being DONE. There is an art to contemplation which lifts us far above the river of random thought or the “mind-talk” which has few if any answers. Learning this art will be part of the seminar.

Another fascinating thing is that all of these discoveries were happening in the midst of one of the most challenging eras of my later adult life. Externally speaking, my life was no picnic in the last year. From the summer of 2007 till the summer of 2008 was one of the most trying, discouraging, frustrating years of my life, which was filled with confusion, reversals, betrayals, and lost friends. We were expecting to return to Texas, lock, stock, and barrel. Everything seemed to point to that destiny, and then suddenly, everything fell apart! I could have focused on the unhappiness and near financial disaster, but life always gives us a choice. Instead, I chose love. I chose to ignore what had been taken away and to begin creating a new life instead with what God had given me to create. This is when I found a powerful living relationship with God that transcends inspiration; that transcends all ordinary predictions about life. I discovered that NOTHING is bigger than God, and through co-creation with God I could have the BEST YEAR OF MY LIFE no matter what the story line might happen to be!!!

The secrets I discovered this past year are secrets that REALLY WORK, for there are no conditions bigger than these truths. Out of the ashes of what could have been a disaster, the phoenix arose!
